The Summer Earwig Invasion
Earwigs are a classic Ontario summer pest. Characterized by the prominent pincers (cerci) on their abdomen, they naturally live outdoors in damp soil, mulch, and under rocks. However, when the weather becomes too hot and dry—or excessively rainy—they migrate indoors in massive numbers seeking shelter.
While they are entirely harmless to humans and homes, they are a major nuisance. You will often find them in damp basements, bathrooms, or hiding in dark crevices like folded wet towels or under welcome mats.
Our Earwig Control Approach
The most effective way to manage earwigs is to stop them before they get inside.
- Exterior Perimeter Barrier: We apply a heavy residual liquid treatment around the entire exterior foundation of your home. We pay special attention to doorways, ground-level windows, and weeping holes.
- Harborage Treatment: We treat the areas where earwigs breed and hide near the home, such as mulch beds, flower gardens, and under decks.
- Interior Spot Treatment: If earwigs have already breached the home, we apply targeted treatments to baseboards in basements and bathrooms to quickly knock down the population.
