The Nuisance of Nesting Skunks
Skunks are a common suburban pest throughout Ontario. They are opportunistic burrowers, frequently digging their dens underneath wooden decks, concrete front porches, sheds, and home additions.
Having a skunk den near your home is a constant source of stress. You or your dog risk getting sprayed every time you let them out at night. Furthermore, skunks will tear up your lawn searching for grubs, their primary food source.
Our Skunk Extraction & Trenching Process
Filling the hole with dirt or rocks will not work; a skunk will simply dig it out again in minutes. Permanent exclusion requires specialized underground barriers.
- Inspection: We identify the primary burrow entrance and determine if babies are present (May-July).
- Humane Extraction: We install a specialized one-way skunk door over the burrow entrance. As the skunk leaves at night to forage, the door closes behind it, preventing re-entry without causing panic or triggering a spray.
- Underground Trenching (Exclusion): To ensure no animal ever digs under your structure again, we dig a trench around the perimeter. We install heavy-gauge galvanized steel mesh down into the ground and bend it outward in an 'L' shape before burying it. When a skunk tries to dig at the edge of the deck, they hit the buried wire and give up.
