The Rising Threat of Ticks in Ontario
Due to warming winters, Blacklegged Ticks (Deer Ticks) and American Dog Ticks are becoming incredibly common across Ontario, especially in York Region and areas bordering ravines, trails, or forests.
Blacklegged ticks are the primary vector for Lyme disease. They don't jump or fly; instead, they "quest" by climbing to the top of tall grass or shrubs and waiting to latch onto a passing human or pet. If your property backs onto a wooded area or has dense vegetation, you are at a higher risk.
Our Exterior Tick Barrier Program
Apex Pest Control offers seasonal tick reduction programs to make your yard safe for summer barbecues and pets.
- Targeted Power Spraying: We use power sprayers to apply a residual barrier to the "ecotone"—the transition zone between your manicured lawn and the woods/brush. We also treat tall grasses, ornamental shrubs, and under decks.
- Mouse Control: Ticks contract Lyme disease by feeding on infected white-footed mice. By managing the exterior rodent population around your home with bait stations, we indirectly reduce the infected tick population.
- Habitat Modification Advice: We provide actionable advice on making your yard less hospitable to ticks, such as keeping grass mowed short, removing leaf litter, and creating gravel barriers.
